SOUTHFIELD is pleased to present, We’ve Always Been Here a solo exhibition by Madeline Kuzak. The exhibition runs from November 2nd - November 30th.

Utilizing a house, its yard and dinning room as a setting for Kuzak’s works she transforms a suburban ranch into a space for display and the investigation of the inherent creepiness of the American suburb and accompanying lifestyles. The show consists of five outdoor sculptures scattered in the bushes and trees of the backyard. A site specific photo installation in the window of the house as well as two and three dimensional works installed in the interior of the residence.

Using everyday materials such as scrubs, a wig, bells, wood, resin, a plastic lids. Kuzak creates haunting and somewhat playful works. Wood cut outs of a painted harpy (Harpy, all works 2019) and Cat Woman, Cat Woman (Batman Beyond) with a Broken Wrist. A hanging poncho adorned with sleigh bells and with a styrofoam Plague doctor mask titled, Plague Mummer Windchime. A painting of the character from the movie The Ring on a black plastic lid with the words Stockholm Syndrome written over a raised black on black spiral. The works explore the landscapes of Americana, goth culture, images of ghosts, witches and masks, exploring both the ancient and the contemporary expressions of those beliefs, symbols and representations.
